For those unfamiliar with STEPS
STEPS (Supporting Team Excellence with Patients Society) is a non-profit, team-based primary healthcare organization serving the Thompson Region of BC. We provide patient-centred care by bringing together family physicians, nurse practitioners nurses, and allied health professionals to support individuals and families at all stages of life.
Our services include primary care and family practice, urgent care for non-emergency concerns, women’s and sexual health services, prenatal care, and Indigenous partnership programs, along with other community-based health supports. Care is provided at multiple community health centre locations and through partnerships with local organizations.
STEPS uses a team-based, patient-centred approach to care, meaning your health is supported by a collaborative team of healthcare providers working together rather than a single provider working alone. This allows for more comprehensive, coordinated care tailored to your individual needs.
As a non-profit organization, STEPS focuses on improving access to care and health outcomes for the community rather than profit. We work closely with local partners, including Indigenous communities, and offer services designed to address gaps in the healthcare system while providing respectful, inclusive, and community-based care.
For potential patients
At this time, the only STEPS clinic accepting new patients for primary care attachment is the North Shore location.
To be considered for attachment, patients must meet at least one of the North Shore eligibility criteria. Attachment is not guaranteed and depends on provider availability.
Eligible patients must be without a current family doctor or nurse practitioner and be registered on the HealthLink BC (811) attachment waitlist.
If an individual is successfully attached and other members of their household do not have a primary care provider, those household members may also be attached.
Some services, such as Women’s and Sexual health services and certain group programs, may be accessed without being attached to a STEPS primary care provider.
Urgent care services are only available to patients who are already attached to STEPS and are not open to external patients.
