At STEPS, we provide a wide range of health and social services under the same roof. Our multidisciplinary team of doctors, nurses and other health professionals offers timely access to a portfolio of services encompassing everything from general health check-ups and specialized treatments, to mental health and social support services. We are committed to ensuring an evidence-based approach to your well-being.

Our Clinics

Serving the Thompson Region since 2017

STEPS and our community partners currently provide healthcare services for close to 15,000 people in the Thompson Region. We currently operate four clinic locations in Kamloops and surrounding areas!

In addition, the team provides medical services in partnership with the Q'wemtsín Health Society which provides holistic health services to three Secwépemc communities; Tk’emlúps te Secwépemc, Skeetchestn and Whispering Pines/Clinton Indian Band.

Who We Are

Providing patient-focused healthcare

The Supporting Team Excellence with Patients Society (STEPS) is a non-profit society that has been providing interdisciplinary, team-based community health care in the Thompson Region since 2017.
The team has been leading innovation in the delivery of patient-focused community healthcare by increasing access to family physicians and nurse practitioners, addressing the social determinants of health to improve health outcomes, enhancing partnerships with local Indigenous communities and advancing medical expertise in the region.

Free 8-Week CBT Group: Build Awareness & Shift Unhelpful Patterns STEPS is offering a free Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) group for eligible patients. Led by Registered Social Worker Angela Owen and Psychiatrist Dr. Kristina Birkholz, this 8-week program helps participants become more aware of their thoughts, emotions, and behaviours—and how to positively shift them. Mondays | Sept 8 – Nov 3, 2025 | 12:30–2:00 PM Online via Zoom Learn practical CBT tools to change unhelpful thought patterns, behaviours, and emotional responses. Led by RN Katie and Psychiatrist Dr. Kristina Birkholz, this group is designed to help participants build coping skills, manage emotions, and improve quality of life. Effective Communication Group

Effective Communication Group – Sept 10 to Oct 15, 2025 This 6-week Zoom group, led by Social Worker Angela Owen and Psychiatrist Dr. Kristina Birkholz, helps participants build awareness of their communication styles and strengthen assertiveness skills. Each 90-minute session explores CBT and DBT-based strategies to shift unhelpful patterns and foster healthier, more effective communication. Sessions run Wednesdays from 10:00–11:30 AM. Open to eligible STEPS patients — registration is required through your doctor’s office.
